Kiona Hagen Niehaus (http://www.kh-niehaus.com) is an artist, software creator, and UX designer living in Berlin. She recently completed her PhD in the Computing Department at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she worked with Dr. Rebecca Fiebrink. Her research explores the development of software tools for creating 3D human figures for artistic applications. Her prototyped software, CreatorCustom, emphasizes exploration, abstraction, and evocative human embodiment, and questions the role software may take in creating digital artwork.
Her artistic work spans 3D animation, photography, video, sensor-based interactive systems, textiles, sound, and performance, in order to create immersive, evocative artwork. She uses her artwork to discuss community, interpersonal, and wider social dynamics related to sexuality, gender, and pain, among other topics. She is a collaborator with COVEN Berlin (https://www.covenberlin.com). Kiona grew up in rural Washington state (USA), and holds a BFA in Photography from Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY, USA) and an MFA from Goldsmiths (London, UK).
