Doctorate (Dr. phil. in art.)
The HFBK awards a doctorate, with the title Dr. phil. in art. Appropriately to the trans-disciplinary range of studies offered by the University, dissertations are supervised which contribute from different perspectives to research into the arts, their defining characteristics, context and function.
This includes analyses of artistic works as well as engagement with historical, social, media and cultural processes which have exerted an influence on artistic discourse, or have been and continue to be influenced by it.
The HFBK will also supervise dissertations which engage with art-theoretical or philosophical concepts relating to analysis of the arts and addressing their essential nature.
As well as a scientific post-doctorate, the University permits and encourages doctorates with a large artistic content, whose relationship with scientific doctorate work must be explained.
