Judith Dyeme Daduut from Jos (Nigeria) is a Guest Lecturer and Artist in Residence at HFBK in the department of sculpture in the winter semester 2024/25.
Together with her students, she will present works that they developed during her seminar on the topic of “DOORS”.
Delving into the metaphorical sense of doors and the spaces they lead us into, the exhibition invites participants to reflect on how doors carry unique meanings for each individual, exploring the various interpretations of what their own side of the door means to them. Through these interpretations, the works give insights into our practice, stories, spaces, and histories.
With Adrian Fabritius, Ana Gabriela Arrona Córdova, Bjørg Elttør, Charlotte Neidel, Ella Kur, Freja Ye, Gökçesu Boyraz, Ida Winder, Kevin Mayr, Mai Ly Nguyễn, Noam Ivry, Quirin Kasenbacher, Tristan Isak Bendixen nd Xinyue Zhang.
In addition, Ula Osman, Artist in Residence from Khartoum (Sudan), offers insights into current projects during her residency at the HFBK from autumn 2024 to summer 2025.
Ula Osman’s work is deeply rooted in Sudan's cultural and social fabric, exploring the dynamics of center and margin to reflect diverse narratives of identity, place, and belonging. Her artistic practice includes collage, photo transfer (monotype), modified photography, and drawing, which she uses to weave together layers of meaning. This creates a visual tapestry capturing urban life's fantasies and realities in Sudan. By examining the interplay between center and margin, she metaphorically highlights the often-overlooked voices and stories within cities.
