Graduate Program »Aesthetics of the Virtual«
From 2015 to 2017, the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK) offered places to ten doctoral students. As part of a three-year Graduiertenkolleg (doctorate graduate program), the candidates were to research the »Aesthetics of the Virtual«, working towards a Dr. phil. in art. (philosophiae in artibus).
The applicants – who came from both artistic and academic backgrounds – were tasked with contributing to the program's work with their own projects. HFBK's doctorate system allows not only for academic doctorates but also the kind of PhDs in which the artistic aspect plays a major role. Accordingly, places could be awarded both to academics and to artists. In their applications, applicants were, significantly, required to elaborate on what contribution their projects could make to the doctorate program as detailed in the document linked below, and to which focal topics their projects could make a particular contribution.
