How to relate (to) a book - #series 1: RE/VERSIONEN
Venue:
- Extended Library, HFBK, Lerchenfeld 2, 22081 Hamburg
Aesthetic objects provoke other modes of writing and knowledge politics. They alienate forms of publishing, push for situatedness, disrupt authorization and play with authorships as well as readerships.
The series “How to relate (to) a book” looks at books that challenge with their media obstinacy and act as epistemological vehicles of irritation. And it then asks what forms of public are addressed by artistic and academic publications dedicated to aesthetic objects. Which audiences do the books generate and what happens to the traditional format of the book presentation? Can this public address be performatively irritated by the knowledge politics of books?
As a cooperation between the Institute for Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Hamburg and the HFBK Hamburg, we are exploring how books are told and what relationships they can establish in the HFBK's Extended Library.
The volume RE/VERSIONEN (Neofelis 2024) kicks off #series 1. It brings together contributions from over forty authors engaged in academic and/or artistic research on questions of ambiguity. In the Extended Library, RE/VERSIONEN aims to create a space for experience and discussion that explores practices of citation, processes of pre/finding and turning, arranging and cutting, together with guests and the audience.
