Carola Wagenplast, Substitute Professor Time-based Media
In the winter semester 2021/22, Carola Wagenplast will be substituting temporary for Jeanne Faust in the major field of study Time-based Media.
Carola Wagenplast has been part of the artist collective "Jochen Schmith" since 2000 (until 2014 with Peter Hoppe and Peter Steckroth, since 2015 with Peter Sreckroth). She studied at the HFBK Hamburg with Eran Schaerf and Willem Oorebeek until 2006.
Already during their studies, the collective was represented in numerous national and international exhibitions, including the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2001) or as a participant in the Baltic Triennial of International Art Vilnius, Lithuania (2005). Exhibitions followed in Hong Kong (Para/Site, 2006), Kunstverein Hamburg (Auftakt, 2008), Ireland (Biennale Ireland, 2009) and Kunstverein Braunschweig Haus Salve Hospes (Certain Arrangements, 2010), among others.
In 2011/12 Carola Wagenplast held the visiting professorship in the department of time-based media at the HFBK Hamburg as part of the collective "Jochen Schmith". In SS 2017, she taught the basic class for time-based media there. From 2018-2020, she represented (with Peter Steckroth) Peter Piller at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig.
In recent years, works by the collective have been shown in Oslo (Galerie VI,VII 2019), Bochum (RUB 2018), Brussels (Independent Régence 2017), and London (FRIEZE Focus Section 2016), among others.
The collective received the prestigious Lichtwark Förderpreis of the City of Hamburg in 2017 and the kunstzeitraum Stipendium of the Friends of the Pinakothek Munich / Südhausbau in 2009. In 2011 "Jochen Schmith" had the opportunity to live and work in Brussels for one year as part of the WIELS residency program.
