PAT PAT PAT stands for touch – a sympathetic pat on the back, the sweeping stroke of a brush or the dripping of paint, which releases itself from the boundary of the canvas and connects with its surroundings. The exhibition shows perspectives of young artists from Hamburg and Vienna who deal with the question of painting in 2019. The exhibited works conceive painting as an installative and performative practice that extends the classical canvas painting. They question the material itself: the colour, the textures and surface structures that oscillate between haptic and visual qualities. Materiality is no longer to be understood as a rigid, smooth and closed surface, but as flowing, accessible, changeable.

At the opening event all artists are present, during the opening hours always at least one person from the group. Questions and conversations are always welcome. Free admission.

This exhibition is supported by Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien and Karl H. Ditze Stiftung.
