Annika Kahrs: Gravity's Tune: Feb 26, 2025 - Mar 2, 2025
In Gravity's Tune, which premiered at the Schering Foundation in 2023, Kahrs interprets acoustic recordings derived from astrophysics. These sounds allow gravitational waves—such as those caused by colliding black holes—to be heard. Through this interpretation of "extraterrestrial" sounds, Kahrs invites audiences to engage with inaudible and barely imaginable (sound) worlds. At the same time, she highlights both the possibilities and the limitations of what can be perceived audibly. To create this video work, Kahrs collaborated closely with composer Louis d'Heudières, musicians from Los Angeles, and researchers from the LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory). LIGO, described by physicist Dr. Keith Thorne as the "quietest concert hall on Earth," captures extraterrestrial signals that serve as the foundation for this unique artistic endeavor.
The Video is in English with German Subtitles.
Cost: regular exhibition ticket. Tickets for the discussion round "Exploring Outer Space" on February 27, 2025 also grant access to the presentation of Annika Kahrs’ video work, Gravity's Tune.
