2024/09/27: The elephant in the room, in the room the elephant
Open Call The elephant in the room, in the room the elephant for students who work in sculpture, especially from the specialised sculpture classes from the 3rd semester onwards
Accompanying the symposium ‘The elephant in the room - sculpture today’, organised by Prof. Pia Stadtbäumer and Prof. Martin Boyce, an exhibition is to be shown at ICAT 02 in the AtelierHaus of the HFBK Hamburg.
It is not unusual for artistic positions to relate to a problem. Formally, in terms of content, aesthetically, abstractly, theoretically, there are numerous ways of dealing with the request to work through a problem. An elephant in the room describes a problem that is not discussed directly and immediately. The metaphorical taking of space seemingly leaves no room for being overlooked and brings about a kind of collective not-seeing. How do artists dedicate themselves to such abstractly invisible, unspoken assumptions? How is a space filled both symbolically and physically? How do spaces and bodies relate to each other?
Students who work in sculpture, especially from the specialised sculpture classes from the 3rd semester onwards are cordially invited to approach the questions of the symposium artistically and submit concepts for an exhibition from 2-13 December 2024.
