Kathrin Lemme is a lawyer, film producer, and has been a professor of media management since 2006. With her appointment to HFBK Hamburg in 2022, she assumed the leadership of the Master’s program in Film at the Hamburg Media School.
After completing her law studies and legal clerkship in Berlin, Kathrin Lemme initially worked as an assessor at a law firm in Hamburg. From 1998 to 2000, she studied production management at what is now the Hamburg Media School. For her graduation film 3 TAGE 44 (dir. Oliver Dommenget), she was awarded the Gerling Producers’ Prize in 2001. Following her film studies, she worked as a producer for Studio Metropol Film Berlin and TFC-Trickompany in Hamburg, before establishing herself as an independent producer in 2002. Since then, she has produced numerous nationally and internationally recognized documentary films, including the Grimme Prize-winning EISENFRESSER (dir. Shaheen Dill-Riaz). The production PARCHIM INTERNATIONAL (dir. Stefan Eberlein and Manuel Fenn) premiered in the German Competition of the International Leipzig Documentary and Animation Film Festival and received multiple awards, most recently the ARD Programming Prize in 2018.
In 2013, Kathrin Lemme co-founded Four Minutes Filmproduktion in Berlin with Chris Kraus, leaving the company in November 2017. During this period, the international theatrical production DIE BLUMEN VON GESTERN (dir. Chris Kraus) was realized, opening the Hof Film Festival and having its world premiere at the prestigious TIFF in Tokyo, where it won the festival’s highest award, the Grand Prix. Following numerous other festival successes, the film was released in cinemas across Germany and Austria. It won the main prize at the Moscow Jewish Film Festival and received the Gilde Prize for Best National Film. DIE BLUMEN VON GESTERN was nominated in eight categories for the German Film Award.
As a professor, Kathrin Lemme received the Research Award from the Technical University of Ostwestfalen-Lippe in 2018. From 2019 to 2022, she served as Vice President for Communication and Profile at the Technical University of Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
She is a member of both the German and European Film Academies and serves as a jury member for the BKM and the Zurich Film Foundation in the Non-Fiction committees.
