Achterhaus-Residency Hamburg | Deadline: March 10, 2026
The Achterhaus Residency Hamburg is a three-month residency grant for international artists working in the field of visual arts, awarded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Ministry of Culture and Media. The residency takes place in 2026 at the Achterhaus studio community in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld and includes a rent-free residential apartment, a monthly maintenance allowance, a travel allowance, as well as professional support and networking provided by a nominating institution based in Hamburg. The aim of the residency is to enable international artists to develop an artistic project in Hamburg and to foster exchange with the local art scene.
Who can apply?
Art institutions, artists’ houses or associations based in Hamburg acting as nominating bodies
Professional visual artists may be nominated
Artists must have their primary residence abroad
Students are excluded
Each institution may submit a maximum of one nomination per quarter
Direct applications from artists are not permitted

Applications must be submitted exclusively by the nominating institution
