HFBK Hamburg is a partner in the Cluster of Excellence BlueMat: Water-Driven Materials, which—together with the Technical University and the University of Hamburg—pursues the ambitious research goal of developing sustainable and environmentally friendly materials. Beginning in 2027, HFBK will participate in the cluster with a research professorship that, drawing on material research in the natural and engineering sciences, will contribute a critical reflection on the significance of water on the blue planet in the age of the Anthropocene. Artistic modes of inquiry will be central, connecting experimental and aesthetic practices in the fields of design, media, and spatial research with theoretical and speculative discursive approaches and formats.
