Ingo Offermanns studied painting at the Akademie der bildenden Künste München, Munich, from 1994 to 1998, and completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at the Werkplaats Typografie in Arnheim in 2001.⁠ ⁠Since 2000, he has worked as an independent designer specialising in books and printing for a number of museums and publishing houses in Germany and abroad. Before taking up his post at the HFBK Hamburg in 2006, Ingo Offermanns lectured at a number of institutions, including the ArtEZ hogeschool voor de kunsten in Arnheim (the Netherlands) and at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA). He is developing his research project Inter Graphic View in collaboration with the graphic design class at the HFBK Hamburg as part of the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU). Since June 2019 he is vice president of the HFBK.
