Experiences of participating students
Marlon Weber, 2022
In the end, I extended my stay because I enjoyed it so much and decided to make another short film. I am very grateful to the Art School Alliance for the great experience and can recommend it without hesitation!
Tim Oppermann, 2022
My expectations were more than confirmed. I was able to come into contact with really great people who I can now call my friends. I got to know new working methods and gained an insight into the philosophy of Argentinian cinema.
Tips & tricks for the semester abroad (as of summer semester 2022)
Let's talk about language!
Marlon Weber:
I think it is particularly important to speak Spanish. I only knew very little Spanish at the beginning and that made it much more difficult for me. [...] The professors also communicated with me entirely in Spanish, right from the start. But that forced me to learn the language, which is what I had set out to do.
I then used the internet portal “superprof” to find a Spanish teacher with whom I took private lessons, which were quite cheap (much cheaper than all the private language schools in Buenos Aires).
Tim Oppermann:
There was always something to do. As a result, my Spanish skills gradually improved. Almost nobody spoke English.
Good to know! What should I bear in mind at the university?
Marlon Weber:
I would recommend picking the courses that really interest you and asking the professors individually whether you can take part in the class. [...] But the professors are really nice and open, so you can actually attend all the courses you want this way.
Malte Rollbühler:
The system is very school-like. Once I had clarified that I had really come to the university via the ASA program, I was immediately told: “you can do that”, “you can't do that” or “the offer is only for these and those”, you can only use editing stations with a specific project that you have agreed with a professor. But I believe that if you are a little proactive about your plans and wishes, you can realize your projects despite all these rules.
It's all about the money (!?)
Marlon Weber:
It is advisable to either take all your money with you in cash and exchange it in exchange offices in Argentina, or to have money sent to you by Western Union, as the exchange rate at ATMs is very expensive.
