Together with the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK) and the Goethe-Institut Hamburg, PRIF invites to a panel discussion on the occasion of the group exhibition "Was Bleibt"/"What Lingers". The exhibition of Sudanese artists is presented at the HFBK by the Goethe-Institut Hamburg, the Goethe-Institut in Exile and the Downtown Gallery Khartoum in Hamburg.
The curators Rahiem Shadad and Larissa-Diana Fuhrmann together with the artist Galal Yousif and the cultural manager Reem Abbas present the current art scene in Sudan. They talk about the challenges artists face in the face of political violence and forced displacement in the Northeast African country and in exile. The political context significantly shapes artistic practice and production: in an environment where limited media coverage prevails, it is the artists* who take on the role of storytellers and document the grave human rights violations Sudanese civilians suffer at the hands of rival armed groups. The panel discussion aims to provide information about the current situation in Sudan.
