Silke Silkeborg, who describes herself as a painter of the night, is always drawn out to explore painting in the dark. In this exhibition, her latest oil paintings, which show rhythmic light reflections on dark water surfaces, are being presented together for the first time. The series of works complements previous series such as "Leuna", in which she interpreted one of Europe's largest chemical factory sites, "Meeresleuchten", which she spent a summer travelling after in order to be able to depict it, and "Lichtverschmutzung", which she paints from space.
Lennart Münchenhagen's series of works takes the opposite view. Dark surfaces, which at first glance appear to show nothing but blackness, turn out to be photographs of the night sky on closer inspection. You can recognise the occasional white blotches - dots that capture stars or even entire constellations. These night photographs have been created digitally for several years and are later reproduced in various ways, sometimes initially as analogue negatives and then developed in the darkroom. An excerpt from this series will now complement Silke Silkeborg's reflections in the Frise. The liberation of any representation of object or emotion is postponed until later.
