The term "mirroring" holds different meanings depending on the context. In social psychology, mirroring refers to the subconscious imitation of the gestures, speech patterns, or attitudes of another person. It is often seen as a non-verbal way of building rapport and establishing a connection. In computing, mirroring typically refers to the process of creating an exact replica of data, files, or systems. This is often used in backup systems. In a more abstract sense, mirroring can be used to describe the process of reflecting upon oneself, one's actions, or one's experiences for self-awareness and personal development. Mirrored architecture often plays with reflections to enhance aesthetics and create unique visual effects. In sound and acoustics, mirroring can refer to the phenomenon where sound waves are reflected off a surface, creating a mirrored or duplicated effect.
This evening presents video works and sound art performances that revolve around the concept of reflecting and mirroring: MIRRORS by Mario Asef (on display in a loop), touching fine lines by Kirstin Burckhardt (video screening), a voice performance by Psychedelic Choir, a live electronics performance by Stefan Roigk, and Conversation #1 by Burckhardt-Asef (video screening).
