The Karl H. Ditze Stiftung international mobility support fund

The HFBK Hamburg initiated the »Art School Alliance« international exchange programme in 2010. Twice a year, the students of the HFBK can apply to spend a period studying abroad at one of 6 partner institutions in the USA, China and Europe.

Selected students may study at a partner institution for the period of a semester (the length of which may vary depending on the institution). They will receive their travel costs and a monthly allowance (200 euros for Vienna, Hangzhou; 250 euros for Paris; 300 euros for London, San Francisco, Boston).

To be granted a scholarship, HFBK students must previously have acted as mentors to scholarship students from a partner university. The mentoring scheme is intended to help guests to feel at home in Hamburg and at the HFBK. At the same time, it allows students to get into contact with a student at the partner university before embarking on their scholarship studies there.

Applying

Bachelor and Diploma students in the departments of Painting/Drawing, Sculpture and Time-based Media who have completed their third year of study may apply, giving the name of the institution they wish to study at and the time period (summer semester or winter semester) plus:

  • a portfolio
  • a report by a professor

Selection process

The professors with responsibility for the academic programme - Jutta Koether, Dr. Hanne Loreck, Michaela Melián and Matt Mullican – decide on the awarding of bursaries.
