Silke Grossmann ist Professorin für Künstlerische Fotografie an der HFBK Hamburg im Studienschwerpunkt Grafik/ Fotografie/ Typografie. Ausgangspunkt ihrer Lehre ist die Wechselbeziehung zwischen Fotografie und Wahrnehmung. Erforscht werden Sprache und Materialität des fotografischen Bildes im bildnerischen Prozess, Fotografie im Kontext anderer Künste sowie mediale Korrespondenzen etwa zum experimentellen Film oder zum Buch als eigenständigem künstlerischen Objekt.

Silke Grossmann ist seit Jahren an der redaktionellen Arbeit des Materialverlags der Hochschule beteiligt, hat zahlreiche Publikationen betreut und die »edition fotografie« mitbegründet, die sie herausgibt. Sie hat Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland gemacht, Künstlerbücher und experimentelle Fotofilme veröffentlicht. Bilder der Künstlerin befinden sich in Sammlungen etwa des Fotomuseums im Münchner Stadtmuseum, des Museums Folkwang in Essen und in der Hamburger Kunsthalle. 

Silke Grossmann is professor of artistic philosophy at the HFBK Hamburg in the department of Graphic Art/ Photography/ Typography. Her teaching relates to the interaction of photography and perception and to research into the language and materiality of photographic images in the imaging process and photography in relation to other arts – points of similarity between photography and, for instance, experimental films or autonomous art object books.

Grossmann has been involved in the university publishing press Materialverlag as an editor for some years. She has overseen numerous publication and is co-founder of “edition fotografie” which she currently edits. She has staged exhibitions in Germany and abroad, and has brought out artist books and experimental photographic films. Collections that contain images by the artist include the collections of the Fotomuseum in the Münchner Stadtmuseum Munich, the Museum Folkwang in Essen and the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
